The Producertech Team's 2022 Music Awards

2022 - what a year for music!

We asked the Producertech Team for their musical roundup of the 2022, what their favourite tracks were, and which new artists had caught their attention.

JONNY

Hey Jonny! Tell us about your favourite track from this year.

Eliza Rose & Interplanetary Criminal - B.O.T.A. (Baddest Of Them All)

This tune was everywhere, despite that I was quite late to the party only hearing it for the first time in August but after that I heard it everywhere and couldn’t get it out of my head. It is so infectious and nostalgic, it feels like a throwback to when good dance tracks would frequently make the top 10 back in the 90’s. For me this is probably the most legit dance track to make it to number 1 in the mainstream charts in 25 years and I’m really happy about that.

And your favourite new artist?

Fadi Mohem

Fadi Mohem is a rising star in the techno world. This year he released a collaboration with Ben Klock which was absolutely amazing but followed it up with a solo EP on his own label that ticks all the boxes for detroit style atmospheric techno that also goes quite hard. I’m looking forward to whatever he does next.

ROB

Head Tutor Rob - I'd be keen to see what musical discoveries you've made! What was your top track from the past 12 months?

Louis Cole - I’m Tight

Delivering the usual funky licks and distinctive vocal hooks, this track from his 2022 album ‘Quality Over Opinion’ has been one of the most played of the year. As well as being an engaging listen, it’s also one of our favourite videos of 2022 - check it out for some great dancefloor move tekkers!

How about your best new artists from '22?

Hania Rani

One of the artists connected to Cercle Records, famous for delivering a tonne of incredible live performances in breathtaking locations around the world, Hania’s set in Paris was happily delivered to us by the algorithms several months back and has been a favourite artist ever since!

SAM

What was your favourite track this year Sam?

PinkPantheress - Boy's a Liar

Well, when I discovered PinkPantheress during lockdown I was instantly smitten, and have been quite an avid follower of her music since. I love the way her music kinda floats between pop and dance music - can be a welcome relief from both genre's by moulding them together. The track I've picked is 'Boy's a Liar'. She just released her latest EP and this was the lead track - interesting rhythms, nostalgic garage guitars and sugar sweet vocals - a soothing way to see out the year!

And your favourite new artist of the year?

Batu

I've been a big fan of Left-field Techno for a few years now, and I'd always heard of Batu, and his label Timedance, but had never taken the trouble to properly check him out. A friend introduced me to the track 'False Reeds' and it really took me aback. I hadn't ever really thought of producing music like this myself, in such a free form, sound based way - Suffice to say it helped me rewrite the rulebook. He's a fantastic DJ too - although I haven't had the chance to see him live yet!
