Happy World Music Day! At Producertech, of course, we celebrate music everyday as if it’s our last on earth. But we’re a big fan of the whole world joining together to celebrate one of humanity’s oldest, most popular, and most transcendent artforms.

World ____ Days are a relatively new phenomenon, and World Music Day is no exception - it was founded in 1982 by Jack Lang and Maurice Fleuret, the French Minister of Culture and Director of Music at the same Department, respectively. Fleuret discovered after collecting data on the French public, that 50% of young people played an instrument or some kind of music.
In a flash of inspiration, he imagined bringing out all those musicians into the streets to perform; hence one of the goals of World Music Day - for professionals, amateurs, and musicians of all skills to come out and play in public. A key component was making the concerts free to the masses. This originated in France, but has quickly spread around the world, and we’re celebrating it with you and the global community today!
The UK actually has its own specific version, Make Music Day, also on the 21st of June, created as part of the wider global celebrations. Patronised by Mick Jagger in 1992, Make Music Day has been running ever since, and often coincides with Glastonbury, a worthy vehicle for celebrating British & Global Music!
